How to Improve Corrosion Resistance of 5052 Marine Grade Aluminium

The common marine grade aluminum alloys are 5083. 5456 and 5052 aluminum plates. 5083 aluminum is often used for marine yachts, 5456 is for inland rivers and 5052 is for park boats. These three alloys have relatively superior mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and welding performance.

5052 marine grade aluminum .jpg

5052 marine grade aluminum is one of 5xxx Al-Mg aluminum alloy with a Mg content of 2.2-2.8%. It features light weight, medium strength, good corrosion resistance, good weldability, and easy processing and forming.

The application of aluminum alloy in the shipbuilding industry requires high corrosion resistance against marine atmosphere and seawater corrosion. Although the 5052 aluminum also has a certain degree of corrosion resistance, which cannot fully meet the application requirements of the shipbuilding industry.

Adding trace rare earth elements to aluminum alloy can significantly improve the metallographic structure of 5182 aluminum alloy, refine the grains, remove gases and harmful impurities in the aluminum alloy and reduce the source of cracks in the aluminum alloy, which not only increases the strength of the 5052 aluminum coil, but also It also improves the heat resistance and toughness of aluminum alloys.

Grain refinement can make 5052 aluminum sheet easier to form a passivation film on the surface of the aluminum alloy, which improve the passivation performance of the material, and make the aluminum alloy have higher corrosion resistance.

We also need to effectively control the content of harmful impurities Si and Fe, which can also improve the corrosion resistance of aluminum alloys. Part of Mn dissolves into the aluminum ingot, which can increase the recrystallization temperature, contributing to improving corrosion resistance and reduce welding cracks.

In order to prevent grain coarsening, the content of Mn is controlled within 0.1. The addition of Cr has a strengthening effect on the alloy, but too much content will affect the plasticity, so its content is controlled between 0.18-0.30%. Cu can appropriately improve the corrosion resistance of the alloy, so the Cu content is controlled within 0.20%.

7150 Aircraft Aluminum’s Corrosion Resistance Performance

7000 high-strength aluminum has high specific strength and good toughness, and is widely used in the aerospace field. However, high-strength aluminum alloys are prone to local corrosion such as pitting corrosion, intergranular corrosion, and exfoliation corrosion, etc.

Due to the large stress that the material bears, stress corrosion cracking is prone to occur, which brings hidden dangers to aviation safety. Therefore, the stress corrosion research of 7000 series aluminum alloy has attracted much attention. Appropriate heat treatment conditions can be selected to improve the stress corrosion resistance of 7000 aluminum alloy.

The characteristic of aluminum alloy stress corrosion is intergranular fracture, which is dominated by the precipitation structure of aluminum alloy grain boundaries. This type of corrosion requires the grain boundary to meet a condition, that is, the grain boundary is an anode relative to the structure around the grain boundary, so that the corrosion can selectively extend along the grain boundary.

For 7000 aluminum alloy, the anode zone is η phase (MgZn2). The stress corrosion performance of 7000 can be improved by heat treatment. It is to adjust the morphology and distribution of η phase on the grain boundary to achieve their goals.

For example, the η phase of the 7150 aircraft aluminum alloy in the T6 Temper is continuously distributed in the grain boundary, so the intergranular corrosion is very easy to develop in depth, thereby causing stress corrosion cracking.

The grain boundary of 7150 aluminum plate with T77 temper treated with regression and re-aging is intermittently distributed with coarse η phase, which will inhibit the further development of corrosion, thereby improving the alloy's stress corrosion resistance.

For the microstructure of 7000 aluminum alloy, the intragranular precipitation structure dominates the strengthening, and the grain boundary precipitation structure dominates the corrosion. The 7150 aluminum plate in the T6, T77, T76 and T76+T6 has different corrosive properties.

5083 H111 Aluminum Plate for Tank Truck

Compared with pure aluminum and steel, the machining performance of any aluminum alloy is much better. However, in terms of machinability, casting alloys and wrought aluminum alloys are still very different. All the factor such as the chemical composition, grade and heat treatment will affect the allowable deformation of aluminum and aluminum alloys.

Generally speaking, industrial aluminum sheet can be applied in many industries, such as container packaging, transportation, machinery and equipment, durable consumer goods, food industry, electric power industry, etc. Packaging, automobile and construction aluminum have gradually become three main applications of aluminum sheets.

5083 aluminium sheet .jpg

5083 aluminium sheet belongs to Al-Mg alloy. It features low density and high strength, which is widely used in shipbuilding, automobile and tank truck. The common tempers are 5083 h111, 5083 h321 and 5083h116.

5083 aluminum plate is suitable for mechanical parts, chemical equipment parts, shipbuilding, etc., which require high strength and strict corrosion resistance. It is also commonly used in all-aluminum container, fuel tank, air storage cylinders, bus skins, C82 coal trucks, automobile roofs, bottom guards, etc.

It belongs to the non-heat-treatable aluminum alloys. During the solution heat treatment and aging process, its main alloying elements cannot provide significant solution and precipitation hardening effects, so its strength can only be strengthened by cold rolling or wire drawing.

The main element of 5xxx series alloys is magnesium, and a small amount of manganese is also contained in certain alloys. This type of alloy can be strain-hardened, is easy to weld, and has excellent corrosion resistance, so it can be used in the manufacturing of tank truck.

How to Choose Stamping Aluminum Blanks

The stamping aluminum blanks are usually 1060 aluminum alloy. It is widely used in products that require relatively high stamping requirements. 8011 aluminum circle is also sometimes used for stamping, but 1060 aluminum circle is still a popular one.

With different sizes, aluminum blanks are used in the manufacture of cooking utensils (such as non-stick pans and pressure cookers), lamp accessories, traffic signs and hardware product. The quality of the aluminum circle can not be generalized, and we need to choose according to our own needs.

aluminum circle for stamping.jpg

Aluminum discs has good corrosion resistance and relatively low density. It is suitable for deep-drawing, shallow-drawing, and various stamping processes. Therefore, it has been used for cookware for many years.

For example, the ZRD-1 type is suitable for the production of kitchen utensils produced by deep-drawing process, with a deep drawing rate ≥1.8; the ZRD-2 type is suitable for the production of hydraulic or deep-drawing lamps; ZRS-1 is suitable for the production of kitchen utensils in the spinning process.

Aluminum circle price consists of aluminum ingot price, processing feed and shipping cost. The aluminum ingot price always fluctuate, so the aluminum circle price is also not fixed. Due to the cost of stamping aluminum circle series and the price of different annealing processes, there will be certain difference.

The Main Application of 6082 Aluminum Plate

The high-speed catamaran is a high-performance ship that integrates various sailing performances such as excellent seakeeping, rapidity, stability and rotation. At the same time, high-speed catamarans have shortcomings such as high resistance, and easy swaying, therefore, the catamaran needs to solve the problems through structural design.

Structural optimization is a pursuit goal of structural design. However, the lightest structural weight is often the purpose of structural optimization. Due to the speed requirements of high-speed ships, while meeting the strength requirements and achieving the lightest structural weight, it is necessary to choose right structural material.

6082 aluminum plate.jpg

In recent years, the requirements for the lightweight of ships and the recycling of shipbuilding materials have led to further development of aluminum alloys in the shipbuilding industry. Marine aluminium sheet has been used to build small and medium-sized ships due to its low density, high specific strength, non-magnetic, high electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity. The main purpose is to reduce the weight of ships, increase speed and various performances.

The hull material of the high-speed catamaran choose 6082 aluminum plate. The 6082 marine aluminum sheet produced by Haomei Aluminum has good formability, weldability, machinability and corrosion resistance and medium strength. It can still maintain good operability after annealing.

6082 aluminum plate is a very common alloy in Europe and also widely used in the United States. It is an ideal material for manufacturing high-speed ship components. 6082 aluminum sheet is also used in making containers.

The container is of regular shape and can be overlapped layer by layer, so it can be placed in a large number of specially designed ocean-going ships to provide cheap shipping service than air transportation.

Since it is often used in the ocean environment, it also requires good corrosion resistance. The marine grade aluminum sheets are used. The aluminum alloys for containers mainly include 6061, 6082, 6351, 6005, 6063 and 6060 alloys, of which 6061 and 6082 aluminum sheet are the most used, accounting for more than 90% of the usage.

It is mainly used to make the floor inside the container, connecting parts, door sills, forklift guide rails, ground support beams, top support beams, exterior decoration parts, cold air doors. Welcome to leave message below to inquire what you want.

AW 7075 Aluminium VS 7068 Aluminium Alloy

AW 7075 aluminium and 7068 aluminium alloy belong to the 7xxx aluminum alloy. The development of the 7xxx aluminum alloys began in the 1930s. It is an Al-Zn-Mg heat-treatable aluminum alloy with Zn as the main alloy element.

7075 aluminum alloy has high strength, low plasticity and toughness, and is sensitive to stress corrosion cracking. It is the most widely used 7xxx aviation aluminum alloy. The other 7xxxx aluminium alloys are basically developed on the basis of the 7075 aluminum sheet.

7068 aluminium alloy.jpg

The main tempers of AW 7075 aluminum are O, T6, T651, T73 and T76. T6 temper has the highest static strength, the lowest plastic toughness, poor fatigue performance, and is sensitive to stress corrosion cracking, and its toughness decreases with the decrease of temperature, so the T6 temper is not used for low temperature working parts.

The T73 temper has the lowest strength, but has higher fracture toughness and excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking and erosion. The performance of the T76 temper is between T6 and T73. Compared with the T6 state, its strength is low but the stress corrosion resistance is better. In comparison with T73, its strength is high but the stress corrosion resistance is poor.

7068 aluminum alloy is a new high-performance aluminum alloy. The typical yield strength reaches 700 MPa, which is 15% to 20% higher than 7075 alloy. The high temperature performance is better than 7075.

Due to its excellent properties, 7068 aluminum sheet has been adopted by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Haomei Aluminum has both 7075 and 7068 aluminum. Welcome to leave message below to inquire what you need.

The Manufacturing Process of Aluminium 5083 H321

The 5083 aluminum alloy sheet has many advantages such as light weight, medium strength, and easy forming. It can be used in the manufacture of automobile parts, ships and truck tank. However, 5083 aluminum alloy has a relatively high Mg content. It is easy to precipitate β phase (Mg2Al3) at the grain boundary when placed at room temperature for a long time. The precipitation of β phase will make the material age soften.

5083 aluminum alloy .jpg

In order to reduce the adverse effects of β phase precipitation, aluminum 5083 h321 was developed. Stabilizing annealing is carried out on the cold-deformed 5083 aluminum alloy sheet, so that part of Mg can be uniformly precipitated in the alloy in the form of β phase, ensuring that the material after aging softening still meets the performance requirements.

In the manufacturing process of 5083 h321 sheet, the amount of cold deformation after recrystallization annealing, and the temperature and time of stabilization annealing after cold deformation are three key process parameters that affect the final properties of the 5083 aluminum plate.

During the cold deformation process, as the amount of cold deformation increases, the plate lattice distortion and the degree of grain breakage will increase, and the large grains will be elongated along the rolling direction to form a fiber or band-like structure, and a large number of bits will be generated inside the grains. The interaction between dislocations is enhanced, therefore, the strength of the alloy increases.

With the increase of the annealing temperature and the extension of the holding time of the stabilized annealing, the tensile strength and the yield strength will decrease. This is due to the large deformation storage energy accumulated after the cold working of the plate, which causes recovery and softening during annealing. Partial work hardening is eliminated, so the strength is reduced and the elongation is increased.

As the amount of deformation increases, the intergranular corrosion resistance of 5083-H321 sheet decreases, and when the amount of deformation and the stabilization annealing time are the same, the intergranular corrosion resistance of the plate depends on the temperature of the stabilization annealing.A cold deformation of 20% and a stabilized annealing system of 180℃/2h are the best production processes for the 3 mm 5083 aluminum sheet.

The Different Requirements of PS/CTP Plate on Aluminum Plate

The CTP offset printing plates’ basic requirements for the appearance of the aluminum plate base are clean, flat, free of cracks, corrosion pits, spots, vents, scratches, creases, marks, peeling, etc. There is no slight color difference.

The PS plate can ignore the above problems. The main reason is that the CTP equipment uses scanning imaging, unlike the PS plate, which uses a vacuum method to make the plate and the film close. If the CTP plate flatness is poor, it will affect the laser imaging quality.

The difference between CTP plate and PS plate on the geometrical size requirements of aluminum plate base:

CTP offset printing plates.jpg

1. Thickness difference

The thickness of the aluminum plate base for CTP thermal is generally 0.280mm, which is slightly thicker than the PS plates currently produced (the thickness of the PS plate base is 0.270mm±0.005mm). Since the aluminum plate base is thicker, the printing plate stiffness will be better, and it is not easy to bend.

2. Width difference

Since the production of CTP plates does not install an online trimming device, the width tolerance of the aluminum coil is required to be ≤±0.5mm, preferably without tolerance. There are also clear requirements for the cutting quality of aluminum coils, that is, there should be no burrs, flounces, etc. on both sides of the aluminum coil after slitting.

3. Vertical and horizontal uniformity

The longitudinal and transverse thickness tolerances of the aluminum plate base should be ≤±0.005mm. The thickness deviation will affect the plate making, and the parameters set by the CTP plate making machine are generally not allowed to be adjusted casually.

The difference between CTP plate and PS plate on the electrolytic performance requirements of aluminum plate base:

Because CTP printing plates are mostly used for high-end color printing, the basic grain value of CTP plates is finer than that of PS plates. The reduction is directly related to the surface roughness of the plate base, that is, the grain value of the plate base. The thicker the grain, the worse the reducibility of the dots and lines.

To prepare a fine and uniform grain, the internal composition of the aluminum plate base is very important, which is related to the composition of the aluminum alloy. Haomei aluminum plate for CTP thermal has good physical and mechanical properties and can significantly improve its electrolysis suitability.

5086 Rust-proof Aluminum

Ships have special requirements for the strength, corrosion resistance and weldability of aluminum alloys, so when choosing marine aluminum sheet, Al-Mg alloy, Al-Mg-Si or Al-Zn-Mg alloy is often used.

The strength of Al-Zn-Mg and Al-Mg-Si decreases significantly after welding. Among them, the corrosion resistance of aluminum-zinc-magnesium alloys after welding is relatively poor, therefore they are subject to certain restrictions as a welding material. But Al-Mg aluminum alloy don’t have such shortcomings.

marine aluminum sheet.jpg

5086 Aluminum belongs to 5xxx Al-Mg alloy. Its Mg content is generally does not exceed 7%. With the increase of the magnesium content, the alloy strength will increase, while the plasticity will decrease. 5086 aluminum plate is usually used in annealed, cold work hardened or semi-cold work hardened state.

Due to the effect of magnesium, the density of 5086 aluminum sheet is larger than other aluminum plates, and it has very good corrosion resistance. It is also a well known rust-proof aluminum sheet.

According to the content of magnesium, the anti-rust aluminum plate can be divided into three categories: low magnesium content, medium magnesium content and high magnesium content. The aluminum sheet with low magnesium content is non-heat treatment strengthening. It also has relatively low strength, good weldability and good welding performance.

The aluminum plate with medium magnesium content is generally used for pipes and containers with high plasticity and medium corrosion resistance, while the anti-rust aluminum plate with high magnesium content is generally used for ordinary welded pipes, liquid containers and other parts.

5086 aluminum plate is of low magnesium content. Its application field has relatively high requirements for product performance. Therefore, its processing fee is higher than other 5xxx aluminum. Its tensile strength σb (MPa): ≥240, conditional yield strength σ0.2 (MPa): ≥95.

From 1966 to 1971, the United States built the first batch of 14 "Acivil"-class high-speed gunboats. The main deck and bottom of the ship were made of 12.7mm thick 5086-H32 aluminum alloy. The entire boat shared 71 tons of aluminum and all were welded by argon arc welding. It perfectly prevent rivets from loosening, water seepage and contact corrosion.

7050 and 7150 Aircraft Aluminium

7050 Aluminum is an Al-Zn-Mg-Cu high-strength alloy, which can be strengthened by heat treatment. It is developed on the basis of 7075 aluminum sheet, adding zinc and copper content and using zirconium instead of chromium to refine crystal grains. The content of impurities such as silicon and iron is reduced.

Due to the optimization of the chemical composition and the use of over-aging treatment, the aluminum alloy has excellent comprehensive properties such as high fatigue limit, good toughness, good stress corrosion resistance, and good hardenability while maintaining high strength. Its hot workability is similar to that of 7075 alloy, with general weldability and good machinability.

7050 aluminum plate.jpg

7050 aluminum plate is mainly used for main bearing structural parts with high strength, good fracture toughness, and high resistance to stress corrosion cracking and spalling corrosion, such as thick plates, extrusions, free forgings and die forgings for aircraft structure.

Due to the good hardenability of the alloy, it is especially suitable for manufacturing large thick section parts. The common tempers are T74, T76, and T73. For structural parts that require high strength and resistance to stress corrosion cracking, the T74 temper should be selected.

For the structural parts that require high strength and resistance to spalling corrosion, the T76 temper is generally used; The T73 temper is mainly used for rivet materials that require high strength and good corrosion resistance.

7150 aluminum sheet has high strength and good corrosion resistance. It is an improved alloy of 7050 aluminum. 7150-T65’s strength is 10%-15% higher than that of 7075 and the fracture toughness is 10% higher. The fatigue resistance is good, and the SCC resistance of the two is similar.

It is mainly used in the in the upper wing structure of the large passenger aircraft, the flange of the body plate beam, the main wing longitudinal beam of the upper outer panel, the fuselage reinforcement, the keel beam, and the seat rail.

The 7150-T77511 aluminum alloy has low electrode potential and is mainly used for corrosion-resistant covering skins, and also suitable for heat sinks of heat exchangers. Haomei Aluminum has both 7050 and 7150 aluminum for sale. Welcome to leave message below to inquire what you want.

Aluminum Alloy for Electric Car Body

Electrical cars have an extremely urgent need for lightweight. For every 10kg reduction in the weight of a pure electric vehicle, the cruising range can increase by 2.5km. Among them, the lightweight chassis has a promising market. The penetration rate of aluminum battery boxes, subframes, control arms, steering knuckles, etc. has continued to increase, and thermoformed body parts have also begun to be used on a large scale.

At present, the most mainstream lightweight materials are high-strength steel and aluminum alloy materials. In 2020, high-strength steel and aluminum alloy will account for more than 85% of the automotive lightweight market, of which aluminum alloy used in cars accounts for nearly 65%.

6061-T6 aluminum sheet.jpg

The car body accounts for more than 30% of the total weight and reducing the weight of the car body is very important for lightening. Compared with the steel structure, the aluminum body has a 23% improvement in quality performance, a 74% increase in torsional rigidity, and a 62% increase in bending resistance.

In addition to meeting the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance required by standards and specifications, aluminum alloy automobile must also have good formability, weldability, anti-aging stability, paint gloss uniformity, dent resistance, surface smoothness and excellent bake hardenability, etc.

At present, body panels are mainly made of 5xxx and 6xxx car aluminum. The requirements for automotive inner panel are mainly deep-drawing formability and joining properties. The outer panel requires high strength, so the current automobile outer panel mainly adopts heat-treatable 6xxx aluminum like 6016 aluminum sheet.

The engine generally accounts for about 18% of the vehicle's weight, and the engine cylinder block accounts for about 25% of the entire engine's weight. The piston, radiator, oil pan, cylinder block and cylinder head, crankcase, connecting rod, filter and other parts of the engine can be made of aluminum alloy.

The alloy used in automobile suspension parts is mainly 6061-T6 aluminum sheet. 6A02-T6, 6060-T4, 6082-T6 aluminum alloy can be used as automotive anti-collision beam profiles, and aluminum bumpers can achieve the purpose of lightening.

Haomei Aluminum has rich alloys of aluminum automotive sheets, mainly covering 5xxx and 6xxx aluminium alloy. Welcome to leave message below to inquire what you want.

The Advantages of 24″ Aluminum Trim Coil

The aluminum trim coil is a new product in recent years, gradually replacing color steel plate in construction and decoration. It has outstanding fire-retardant function. The use of new flame-retardant materials can effectively prevent fires. Applying an antistatic coating on the surface makes it difficult to absorb dust in the air due to static electricity.

There are different treatment methods for the surface of 24” aluminum trim coil. The common coating is PE or PVDF. If the building has high requirements for the color of the coated aluminum coil, we can choose anodized aluminum coil. In pursuit of visual impact, we can choose brushing aluminum coil.

1 (2).jpg

The color coated aluminum coil is of light weight and easy to process into various shapes, especially the strength is very high. And it is not easy to deform under various impacts. Regardless of the harsh conditions, the color can remain stable for a long time. It is also easy to maintain that dust can be easily removed by wiping gently.

Aluminum trim coil is for decorating your home's outside building surfaces such as window and door casings, porch posts, the drip edge and fascia. Its biggest advantage is of long service life in the building roofing industry. Generally, polyester paints can be used for more than 10 years, and fluorocarbon paints can be used for more than 20 years.

The organic coating is well integrated with the metal on the surface, and the color will not fade for a long time, which greatly extends the service life of the 24″ aluminum trim coil.

The use of organic coatings makes the surface of the color-coated aluminum coil stronger, and the excellent internal treatment process makes the color-coated aluminum coil have good scratch resistance.

The aluminum trim coil perfectly meet the lightweight design constantly mentioned in modern architecture. It is not only light, but also has excellent anti-rust and anti-corrosive performance. At the same time, the bearing capacity of the environment is reduced.
