Mareine Aluminum 5000 and 6000 Series

Aluminum alloys basically have 8 series, among which only 5000 and 6000 series marine grade aluminum alloys are internationally recognized and can be used on ships. Haomei Aluminum, one of the big marine aluminum suppliers in China, likes to have a highlight of the popular marine aluminum alloys.

5083 aluminum plate is an aluminum alloy plate specially used for shipbuilding with medium and thick aluminum plates being the most commonly used. It is widely used for its good corrosion resistance, welding performance and mechanical properties. Its common tempers are H111, H112, H116, and H321, among which 5083-h116 aluminum plates are most widely used on ships.

In the shipbuilding industry, 5083 aluminum plates are widely used in hull structures, outfitting parts, decks, cabin bulkheads and other parts. Its excellent corrosion resistance and welding performance make ships have a long service life and low maintenance costs in seawater environments.

5059 aluminum alloy is the most advanced marine aluminum alloy. 5059 is an aluminum alloy with high strength, excellent corrosion resistance and heat resistance. It has high strength, especially after heat treatment, it can obtain higher strength and hardness. Its application is not as extensive as 5083.

6061 aluminum is a widely used 6000 series aluminum alloy. It realizes an excellent balance between strength, corrosion resistance, and machinability. The main alloying elements in 6061 aluminum are magnesium and silicon, which form magnesium silicide, improving its mechanical properties. The alloy also has good weldability, making it suitable for projects that require machining and welding.

6082 is a heat-treated alloy that can maintain good operability after annealing. It is mainly used in mechanical structures, including bars, plates, pipes and profiles. It is a commonly used aluminum alloy material for domestic and foreign shipbuilding companies.

Heat treatment is an important part of the 6 series aluminum alloy processing process. It improves its mechanical properties by changing the microstructure of the material. The typical heat treatment process of 6 series aluminum alloy is T6 state treatment. 6082T6 state has higher mechanical properties. Welcome to learn more about al 6082 t6 properties.

How to Choose Marine Aluminum Plate

Marine Aluminum plate is a high-end application of aluminum alloy. Since it is used in marine field, it has stricter process requirements and performance standards than other ordinary aluminum alloy products. How to choose a proper one for your shipbuilding?

The selection of marine aluminium sheet has four principles. Firstly, it should have high specific strength and specific modulus. The structural strength and size of ships are closely related to the yield strength and elastic modulus of the material.

Since the elastic modulus and density of aluminum alloys are roughly the same, the addition of alloying elements has little effect. Therefore, increasing the yield strength within a certain range is effective in reducing the structure of the ship.

Secondly, it should have excellent welding performance. It is usually difficult for high-strength aluminum alloys to have excellent corrosion resistance and weldability at the same time. Therefore, marine aluminum sheets are generally medium-strength, corrosion-resistant and weldable alloys.

At present, the automatic argon arc welding method is mainly used in ships. Good weldability means that the tendency of cracks formed during welding of aluminum alloy is very small. That is to say that marine grade plat should have good welding crack resistance. Because under shipbuilding conditions, the lost welding performance cannot be restored by heat treatment again.

Next, it should have excellent corrosion resistance. Ship structures are used in harsh seawater media and marine environments. Therefore, excellent corrosion resistance is one of the main indicator of marine grade aluminum sheet.

Finally, it should good cold and hot forming properties. Because the shipbuilding has to undergo multiple treatments of cold processing and hot processing, marine aluminum alloys must be easy to process and shape, without cracks, and can still meet the strength requirements after processing.

The selection of marine aluminum sheet is relatively strict. The common choices are 5083, 5454, 5754 and 5086 aluminum sheet. In addition to meeting the above requirements, they don’t burn and is safe in fire. Welcome to leave message below to send inquiry directly.
